Family Alleges Delays and Undignified Treatment at LASUTH After Mother’s Death
I am calling for an independent investigation into allegations of delayed emergency care at LASUTH after my cousin’s 79-year-old mother died following admission for a cardiac condition. The family alleges they were asked to make major payments and purchase tests before she was admitted, while a doctor did not examine her until hours later. They also allege that she was restrained after becoming restless on oxygen, that her son was sent out to buy supplies while she was critically ill, and that he returned to learn she had died. The family says her body had been moved to the morgue before they were informed. A separate family recently made similar allegations over the death of a road-accident victim at the hospital. These accounts raise urgent questions about emergency response times, access to supplies, patient dignity and communication with relatives at public hospitals. Lagos State authorities should independently establish what happened in both cases and hold anyone found responsible accountable. No family should lose a loved one while being sent from one pharmacy or laboratory to another during an emergency.
