Mick Jagger Reveals He Was ‘Ghosted’ and Channeled Heartbreak into New Song

Mick Jagger says his new Rolling Stones track “Back in Your Life” was born from a personal experience of being ghosted after a brief romance. The rock legend told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that he and Keith Richards wrote the lyrics quickly with producer Andrew Watt. The song follows a classic tale of meeting someone, sharing a short connection and then being left without an explanation. Jagger laughed off the surprise that even a star of his stature can be ignored and kept the muse’s identity private. “Back in Your Life” appears on the band’s forthcoming album Foreign Tongues, which also features collaborations with Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Chad Smith and Steve Winwood.

Do you think Mick Jagger's experience of being ghosted adds new emotional depth to the Rolling Stones' music after all these years?

Absolutely! Ghosted or not, Mick's heartbreak juice surely boosts those Stones grooves with fresh feels.

It's interesting that such a rock legend still relies on personal heartbreak to fuel songwriting rather than evolving towards entirely new themes.

I get the nostalgia, but isn't it a bit predictable for a star of his caliber to default to old relationship tropes again?

Maybe give the new track a focused listen for its lyrical nuances, then compare it with classic Stones songs to spot fresh perspectives.
