Hansi Flick Misses Ballon d’Or Coach of the Year Shortlist Despite Barcelona’s Record La Liga Run
The five nominees for the Ballon d’Or Men’s Coach of the Year award are Mikel Arteta, Luis de la Fuente, Unai Emery, Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique. Hansi Flick is notably absent. Flick led Barcelona to back-to-back La Liga titles, including a record 94-point campaign, 95 league goals and an unbeaten home record. He also guided the club to its first domestic treble the previous season and finished runner-up to Luis Enrique in FIFA’s The Best Coach award in December 2025. The shortlist appears to favour European and international success. Luis Enrique won consecutive Champions League titles, while De la Fuente led Spain to the World Cup with just one goal conceded.
