Asaba–Warri Gridlock: Why Not Create Temporary Bypasses Around the Bad Spots?

Thank God I passed through the Agbor–Benin Road a few days before it became blocked. Even then, the potholes were already too deep for trailers and tankers, not to mention small SUVs. Everyone was struggling to find the narrow parts of the road where tyres could still pass. I am sure those sections may have collapsed completely now, or a trailer may have become stuck there. There are at least two major gridlock points on that stretch: one near the Delta State boundary from Asaba, and another close to the Benin bypass. My question is why the surrounding communities cannot clear temporary paths through the bushes for smaller vehicles to bypass the damaged sections. They could even charge drivers a modest fee until the road is repaired.
