Indian Model’s Husband and Mother-in-Law Charged Over Her Death
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has charged the husband and mother-in-law of 33-year-old model and actor Twisha Sharma with abetment to suicide and cruelty following her death in Bhopal on 12 May 2026, five months after her wedding. Investigators allege that Twisha faced sustained mental cruelty from her husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh. Her family had earlier accused the pair of dowry-related harassment, torture and murder, while the accused deny wrongdoing and maintain that she had mental-health challenges. The chargesheet says the alleged mistreatment intensified after Twisha became pregnant. Her family claims she was accused of carrying another man’s child and was forced to have an abortion, an allegation her mother-in-law has rejected. The CBI says further investigation may be conducted if new evidence emerges.
