NFF Board Faces Resignation Claims as DSS Probes ₦17bn Intervention Fund

The controversy follows the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition since 1991. The team reportedly lost its playoff tie to South Africa after failing to secure automatic qualification at the 2026 WAFCON. The DSS is also examining how the NFF utilised the ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund approved in 2024 for outstanding players’ wages and bonuses. Reports say eight of the 13 board members may have stepped down, a development that could affect the NFF elections scheduled for September 27 in Lafia.
