How UNILAG First-Class Graduate Ifeosa Anwulika Earned a Fully Funded Harvard PhD Without a Master’s
Dr Ifeosa Anwulika, a first-class graduate of the University of Lagos, has shared how she went from doubting her academic ability to earning a fully funded PhD at Harvard University. She applied directly for the doctoral programme during NYSC, despite having no master’s degree, no Ivy League background and fears of rejection. Support from her family, mentors and friends helped her complete the application. Anwulika said the funding covered the costs that would otherwise have made the programme unaffordable. She also spoke about facing imposter syndrome after arriving in the United States and learning to contribute confidently in academic spaces. Her advice to Nigerian students seeking scholarships abroad is to build genuine academic interests, prepare applications early and avoid ruling themselves out before applying.
