Akoko-Edo Orders Controlled Ojirami Dam Water Release as Flood Risk Rises
The Akoko-Edo Local Government Council has ordered a controlled release of water from Ojirami Dam after rising levels raised fears of flooding in nearby Edo communities. During an emergency inspection on October 2, council officials directed that engineers supervise the partial release to reduce pressure on the dam. Concerns were also raised over the deteriorating mechanical system used to open and close the dam. Residents of Enwan and other surrounding communities have reportedly faced disruption to farms, businesses and access routes. Authorities say they will keep monitoring water levels and nearby infrastructure, while residents are advised to follow safety instructions.
