Humanitarian Worker Lydia Nwankwo Killed in Bandit Attack in Sokoto
Humanitarian and field operations professional Lydia Chinenye Nwankwo was killed after gunmen attacked her team in Sokoto State, her sister said. The attack reportedly occurred on October 6 as the team returned from field work in Shagari Local Government Area. Her sister confirmed the death in a social media post the following day. The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that armed bandits attacked communities in Shagari but said it was still gathering details on the incident and casualties. Reports also said a police inspector was killed after attackers opened fire on a passenger vehicle near Maghrib. Residents had earlier reported the movement of armed men around farmlands and communities, including Sanyin Nawal village. Police have not officially confirmed the identities of all victims or the full circumstances of the attack.
