Cyberattack Hits French Supermarkets, Overheats Refrigerators and Triggers Fires
Hackers reportedly targeted connected refrigeration systems at major supermarkets across France, forcing refrigerator temperatures as high as 50°C. The disruption spoiled food and reportedly caused fires at some locations. Intermarché and its Netto brand said about 150 stores were affected overnight, while other outlets were disconnected from the internet as a precaution. Carrefour, Monoprix and E.Leclerc were also reported to have been hit. French authorities have opened an investigation into the large-scale attack on software supplied by Danish engineering firm Danfoss. Reports indicate that retailers in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Germany and Belgium may also have been affected.
