Lagos Warns Against Illegal Dumping and Street Trading, Cites Same-Day Mobile Court Trials
The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) says it is stepping up enforcement against illegal waste dumping, street trading and other environmental violations across the state. At a stakeholders’ meeting in Oshodi, the agency said people caught dumping refuse in canals or drainage channels could be arrested and prosecuted. It cited the recent prosecution of a woman accused of dumping waste in a canal in Mafoluku. KAI also warned traders and buyers against operating on walkways, pedestrian bridges, traffic-congested areas and other unauthorised locations. The agency said mobile courts may hear cases the same day for suspects arrested before 4 p.m., while residents were urged to pay only approved government charges.
