Super Falcons Amp Up Intensity Ahead of Rematch with Senegal

Super Falcons Amp Up Intensity Ahead of Rematch with Senegal

The Super Falcons have adopted a sharper game plan ahead of Monday’s friendly rematch against Senegal’s Lionesses at the Remo Stars Sports Complex. Head Coach Justine Madugu says his 10-time African champions will take the initiative from kickoff after a closely contested 2-1 victory in Ikenne-Remo on Friday. Asisat Oshoala converted a first-half penalty and Toni Payne added a second before Senegal pulled one back late on. The Falcons hold a strong qualifying record, having beaten Senegal 3-1 on aggregate in their 2016 WAFCON qualifier. Looking ahead to the Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (July 25–August 16), Nigeria are drawn in Group C with Egypt, Zambia and Malawi. Senegal face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya in Group A. The top four teams will secure direct World Cup berths, while the fifth-placed side enters an intercontinental playoff.

How do you think the Falcons' sharper strategy will change their performance against Senegal this time around?

I agree, this cranked intensity go sharpen their attack and solidify defence. Expect quicker transitions and better pressing to unsettle Senegal from the first whistle.

Adopting an aggressive kickoff plan sounds promising, but past friendlies have shown strategy shifts don't always deliver expected results.

Focusing purely on initiative risks exposing gaps at the back, especially if they overcommit early and leave spaces for quick counters.

They should reinforce defensive drills in training sessions to balance their offensive intent and prevent being caught off guard.
