Maresca Says Fernandes Also Deserved a Red Card in Derby Clash

Foden was shown a straight red card after kicking out at Fernandes following a foul. Maresca said Foden’s reaction warranted punishment, but maintained that Fernandes’ actions in the same sequence also merited a red card. Former City defender Micah Richards shared a similar view, saying Fernandes initiated the confrontation. The derby was also overshadowed by a VAR controversy over Erling Haaland’s winning goal, with the refereeing body later acknowledging an error of judgement in allowing it to stand.
