Delta Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Raping Nine-Year-Old Girl
A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba has sentenced Abubakar Mohammed to life imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl in Oshimili South Local Government Area. Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro delivered the judgment on August 10, 2026, after ruling that the prosecution proved the offence beyond reasonable doubt. The court relied on the victim's testimony and supporting medical evidence. The judge considered the child's age, vulnerability, abuse of trust and evidence of an earlier alleged assault accompanied by threats. Mohammed was sentenced without an option of fine. The court also ordered that his details be entered in Delta State's register of convicted sex offenders and directed that the register be accessible to the public.
