Is Monogamy Natural, or a Religious Ideal?
I believe monogamy is rooted mainly in religious teachings rather than in human nature or traditional African practice. Many societies historically accepted polygamy, while people naturally experience attraction to more than one person. If humans are viewed only as biological beings, expecting lifelong sexual exclusivity may be difficult. Animals often mate with multiple partners, and human desire can also extend beyond one person. For me, monogamy can work only when people deliberately choose it and live by strong spiritual or moral convictions. Otherwise, many relationships may struggle with attraction, cheating and divorce. What do you think: is monogamy natural, or is it a discipline people choose?
