Judge Sets Final Date for Nollywood Actress Doris Ogala’s Cyberstalking Trial After Another No-Show

Judge Sets Final Date for Nollywood Actress Doris Ogala’s Cyberstalking Trial After Another No-Show

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi has adjourned the cyberstalking case against Nollywood actress Doris Ogala to October 28. This follows her absence at Tuesday’s hearing, where her lawyer cited a recent hospitalization despite available medical reports indicating she was discharged. This marks the second time the 34-year-old actress missed her arraignment. The prosecution highlighted social media posts showing her campaign activities, questioning the timing of her alleged illness. The court warned that failure to appear on the next date could lead to a bench warrant. Ogala faces charges under the Cybercrimes Amendment Act 2024 for allegedly publishing intimate photos and false allegations against a prominent pastor. If found guilty, she could face penalties for cyberbullying, harassment, and attempted extortion. The trial’s next session on October 28 will be the final opportunity for the actress to stand before Justice Aluko with evidence to support her defense.

Some might say the judge acted too harshly by fixing a final date without verifying her health first.

Courts should confirm medical documentation well ahead of hearings to prevent repeated no-shows and wasted court time.
