The attention of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has been drawn to a news report by the Daily Trust Newspaper, May 20, 2022 edition, where the Governor was alleged to have squandered millions of state funds on chartered flight in the course of his recent political activities.

The unduly generalised report, titled; “Wike, Fayemi, Tambuwal, six other governors squander millions on private jets,” is not only inaccurate and misleading, it is bereft of facts, which made it fall short of the journalistic standard for which the Daily Trust is known.

One wonders how the newspaper arrived at the number of chartered flights purportedly taken by the Governor in the course of his recent political activities, which it put at 16. We also consider it poor journalistic work for the newspaper to assume that all the trips to the states mentioned in the report were via private jets.

For the avoidance of doubt, while it is correct that Governor Fayemi occasionally uses private jets to get to some difficult to reach places and when commercial flights disappoint, alternative arrangements are made for such trips, more often than not supported by friends.

It must be stated that Governor Fayemi does not use state resources for his personal or political trips, as these are distinct from official trips.

While we do not dispute the role of the media to inform the public, we are of the opinion that such should be done with due regard for fairness and accuracy of information. 

We therefore challenge the newspaper to provide evidence that Ekiti State funds were used for private jets. Otherwise, we demand that the report be retracted.

I don't want to bore you with stories of how we met, but it all happened last year August, a week to her birthday.

She lives close to my house, unknowingly to me she is a new entrant at nursing college in the city I lived in. Early August we met and we got along fast. I got to know about her birthday as we discuss which is not in tended by her actually.

Fast forward to December last year, she told me she will be travelling home for Christmas as against our plan of going to my home town to spend the Christmas. I agreed to let her go because I can't force her to follow me in first place. 

By January I got a job a Lagos which caused me to relocate from the city I was. After two weeks at my work place, I told my HOD I will be travelling home to pick my things. Of which I had the plan to talk to this girl of her possible relocation after she is done with her course, Just because I still love her. 
On getting to the town. I saw her and I challenged her on reason for her actions. She apologized. On critical look at her, I noticed some changes, immediately I asked her. Are you pregnant? And she confirmed it. It was a terrible night, seeing a girl I loved getting impregnated by someone else. 

Immediately I informed her that I will be leaving the Town and I am not coming back again. Ever since, we never talk until recently she chatted and start asking for some financial help.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said the state government may relocate or clear three communities along Kaduna Abuja highway due to activities of informants in the areas.

The Communities identified are Rijana, Kateri and Akilibu villages all located along the major highway linking the state and federal capital territory.

According to the governor, most of the high profile kidnappings and abductions happen near these three dangerous spots.

He said there were concerns of informants residing in those communities were working for bandits.

El-Rufai, who made the statement during the presentation of first quarter security report for 2022 by the State Commissioner Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the concerns regarding these communities will be discussed with security agencies and members of his cabinet.

“We will either relocate or clear these three settlements along that road. We will discuss this in our cabinet meeting by looking at all the options including clearing these 3 settlements. This is because there are informants playing vital role in most of the crimes committed along that road,” he said.

El-Rufai also threatened to demolish any patent stores selling illicit drugs in the state, saying bandits and terrorists use these illicit drugs before attacking innocent citizens.
The governor said the deteriorating security situation in the North West is far worse than what the country experienced in North East because members of ISWAP and Boko Haram elements have moved to part of the state.

The Governor also said his administration is looking at the possibility of recruiting additional 1000 vigilantes too add to the already recruited 1000 vigilantes that were trained at the police command last year.

In his remarks, Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said 360 people were killed from January – March 2022 across the state. According to him, 305 were males, 45 females and 11 minors.

He said 1,389 residents were kidnapped, 350 males,420 females and 79 minors while 3251 cattle were rustled within the period under review. 41 bandits were killed by security agencies in different operations carried out while over 60 bandits were also neutralized through air strikes.

Jungle Justice Needs To Stop

Ekiti State Governor and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has promised to bring to bear all the wealth of experience garnered while resolving internecine wars in Siera Leone, Liberia, Rwanda and Sri Lanka towards the resolution of insurgency and banditry in the country.

The governor was in Kaduna State on Thursday to seek the support of delegates ahead of presidential primary of the APC.

A statement released on Friday in Abuja by the spokesman of Dr. Kayode Fayemi Campain Organisation, Femi Ige, said the APC frontline presidential aspirant spoke in support of Senator Shuaib Lawal’s call that Nigeria should elect someone with education, capacity and experience who can resolve the nation’s security problem.

Senator Lawal, who is one of the party leaders in Fayemi's entourage, had told delegates about the capacity and qualities the Ekiti state governor is made of.

While addressing the delegates, Fayemi said: "I’m one of the few Nigerians with real time experience in resolving wars. I consulted for Nigeria under President Olusegun Obasanjo, I was involved in the resolution of the wars in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Rwanda and bringing the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka to the negotiation table.

"Besides that real time experience in war resolution , I have a Doctorate Degree in War Studies. If I can bring peace to other lands, why not my own country. Nigeria is facing a war situation that we can’t afford to put a neophyte in power, the repercussion is too ghastly to contemplate.

"I will spare no effort to ensure that we win the fight that must be fought with tenacity against insecurity, banditry, unemployment, poverty, inequality, threats of national disintegration, and lawlessness. 

"To this end, working with other key leaders of the party, a detailed blueprint that has been developed with corresponding timelines of implementation will be employed to guide the speedy and accelerated retooling of key institutions of state, including the armed forces, the police service and the civil service."

Speaking further, the APC frontline presidential aspirant said in addition to the problem of insecurity "are adverse domestic pressures and external shocks on the economy that have affected our quest massively to dent unemployment and overcome some of its deleterious effects on the populace, especially our teeming population of young people.

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of minimum wage arrears, which it owed lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and Academic Staff Union of Universities as part of efforts to end ongoing strikes by the unions, The PUNCH has learnt.

The National President of ASUP, Dr. Anderson Ezeibe, and the Chairman, ASUU FUTMinna, Dr. Gbolahan Bolarin, confirmed this in separate interviews with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday.

The PUNCH reported that the two unions are currently on strike following the inability of the government to meet their demands including the payment of minimum wage arrears and release of revitalisation funds, among others.

While ASUU commenced its strike on February 14, 2022, ASUP is currently on an initial two-week warning strike.

Confirming the payment on Thursday, Ezeibe, however, said that was just the beginning.

He said, “The government has started responding. They just started paying the salary/minimum wage arrears, the one they have refused to pay.

“However, that is just one of the demands, so we have not reached anywhere. They have not attended to the others, but I can confirm that people have started receiving alerts of the arrears owed.”
Also, Bolarin, said, “Some of my members got alert of their minimum wage arrears; their salaries are still pending.”

Meanwhile, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology’s management has announced that the school would resume academic activities on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

A circular which was signed by the Registrar of the school, Kayode Ogunleye, partly read, “Upon the directive of the visitor to the university, the management hereby informs all staff and students that the university will continue its academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic session on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

The Killing Of Deborah Has Increased The Insults On Mohammed

Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria, and was injured; so he sent messengers and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury...” Then he said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Not everybody dies from the disease that apparently kills them. Some die from the places they go to seeking relief from that disease.

What killed King Ahaziah? Was it the fall from his upper balcony and the complications arising therefrom? Or was it because he went consulting after the god of Ekron? According to our passage, he died from where he went seeking a solution to what he thought was about to kill him. He died from a where, not a what.

Of course, everybody would say that the king died from his accidental fall, but our passage tells us that his death was actually a divine sentence for seeking help in the places he sent to consult from.

Not everybody dies from their deadly disease. Some die from the deadly places they go to, seeking help. Mind the places you go to when trouble comes. God may pardon ignorant Ekronites who visit their Baalzebub, who might even come out with fantastic lies of Baalzebub’s miraculous powers; but Israelites who should know better, risk death when they play the same game.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help… (Isaiah 31:1).

Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. (Jeremiah 17:5).

Beelzebub might be allowed to lie to his Ekronites, who often come away with fantastic tales of his miraculous feats, but Israelites who walk that path risk disaster.

Not everybody dies from the deadly disease that apparently kills them. Some die from the places they visit, seeking help. Mind the places you go to seek help in the days of your troubles. When some king crashes to death from his high places, let ignorant newspapers say what they may. The prophet knows why.

Consequent to the refusal of the South South and South West regions to support the emergence of an Igbo President from the South-East , Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu has identified the North-East as the only geopolitical zone that understands the pains being nursed by the Southeasterners over their diminishing chances of producing the next President of Nigeria in 2023.

Ahead of the 2023 polls the South West and the South-South having produced Nigeria's Presidents for 16 and 6 years respectively have continued to receive backlashes over their negation to back Southeast's Presidential bid, a region that has never had a shot at the Presidency since the advent of the fourth republic.

Barring his mind on the development, the Senate Chief Whip had said that judging by the multiple Presidential aspirants emanating from both the South-West and South-South regions it is evident that both zones are insensitive to the political plight of their Southeastern brothers.

Kalu who is leading an aggressive campaign for the retention of power in the North over the South-South and South West's rejection of power shift to the South-east , said that North-East like the South East share similar fate because both regions have never enjoyed the support of their neighbouring zones to produce Nigeria's Presidents.

Speaking in Katsina State, where he joined frontline Presidential aspirant of the All Progressive's Congress, Ahmad Lawan to canvass for the support of party delegates, kalu told journalists that the North East is the only region who empathise with the grievances of the South East for being shut out of the Presidential seat.

“The two zones remain the only zones that are yet to produce a president despite having the most capable hands to govern the country,” Kalu argued

“I believe in regional zoning and I will continue to repeat it as long as the issue of ‘Equity, Fairness and Justice’ is concerned. My reason is not only because it worked in 1999 when all the parties zoned their presidential tickets to the South West, but because it is the only true definition of fairness and equity.

“My clamor for the South East to produce the president after President Muhammadu Buhari was borne out of the enormous clamour and desire for the development and strengthening of our dear nation, kalu said .

Reiterating his previous stance the two time former Governor maintained that anything less than SouthEast must be North East, otherwise it is hypocrisy and wickedness.

Kalu gave his reasons; the South East has given its full support to the South West and the South-South and when it got to the turn of the South East, the language changed to ‘Power is not given but taken’.

“In the absence of this clear non-agreement of the southern brothers to support zoning of the tickets to the South East, I wielded my support to the North East with the hope that justice is closer to the South East,” the lawmaker explained.

In his earlier remarks Lawan the Presidential hopeful stated that his aspiration is based on his capacity as a Nigerian who is qualified to be President and not as a northern aspirant as is being peddled in some quarters.

“I am not running as a northern aspirant because the impression created is that I’m a northern aspirant or that northerners are saying they are not going to allow power to the South.

“I’m not running as a northern candidate. I’m running as a Nigerian Presidential aspirant and therefore I come with all my qualifications for that office and people should judge me on the basis of what I have to offer,” Lawan said in Katsina.

1 – The earliest Zaria traditions never mentioned Queen Amina of Zaria.
2 – The people of Zaria first heard of Queen Amina of Zaria from two non-Zaria sources, namely, the Kano Chronicle from Kano & the Infakul Maisuri from Sokoto

3 – The utterly Islamic name Amina was not a Hausa name in the 16th century that Queen Amina was supposed to have lived
4 – The Queen Amina of Zaria described by the Kano Chronicle is completely different from the Queen Amina of Zaria described by the Infakul Maisuri.
5 – Apart from the Kano Chronicle and the Infakul Maisuri no any other primary source document in history ever mentioned Queen Amina of Zaria.

6 – No contemporary source, written or oral, ever mentioned Queen Amina of Zaria.
7 – None of the pre-Colonial European explorers, including Mungo Park, Captain Hugh Clapperton, the Lander brothers, Dr. Heinrich Barth, Dr. William Baikie, etc., heard about Queen Amina of Zaria.
8 – Queen Amina of Zaria was completely unknown to native griots until European Colonial historians popularized her at the beginning of the 20th century.

9 – The Northern Nigerian story of Queen Amina of Zaria is evidently a rehashing of the Middle Belt story of Kisra.
10 – The Original Zaria Province or State is the ancient Nupe Province of Old Gbara formerly known as Gunguma or Kangoma and now known as Wushishi or Dunguru (Zungeru).
11 – Al Sadi’s ‘Tarikh Al Sudan' of 1655 and al-Mukhtar’s Tarikh Al Fattash of the 1660s both are completely unaware of the existence of a Queen Amina of Zaria who was supposed to have been born in 1533.
12 – The earliest of the Arab historians to write on West Africa, including the celebrated El Bakri, wrote that today’s Nigerian Middle Belt was known as Mina or Al Mina.
13 – Gigantic idols and massifs bearing the name the ‘Goddess of Mina’ or the ‘Goddess of Al Mina' replete the plains of prehistoric Central Nigeria centuries before the supposed birth of Queen Amina of Zaria in 1533.
14 – Lady Flora Shaw Lugard wrote that the people of the Nigerian Middle Belt used to worship the idol of a fertility Goddess referred to as the ‘Queen of Al Mina’.

15 – It was Hausa city chroniclers who unprofessionally transcribed the ‘Queen of Al Mina' as ‘Queen Amina’.
16 – The Hausa city chroniclers then hijacked the well-known history of Kisra the Nupe King of Zozo and rehashed it as the story of Amina the ‘Queen of Zazzau’.
17 - The official royal history of early Zaria written by professional palace historians and titled the ‘Abuja Chronicle’, published in 1952, tellingly did not include Queen Amina on the Zaria king-list.
18 – The detailed biography of Queen Amina of Zaria we see today was fabricated by the playwright Umar Ahmed in 1954 in his drama play titled ‘Amina Sarauniyar Zazzau’.
19 – It was unsuspecting scholars, including the Colonial historian S.J. Hogben and the post-Independence academician Professor Abubakar Sa’ad who unwittingly gave scholarly credence to the Queen Amina of Zaria myth.
20 – World renowned historians, including Professor Abdullahi Smith and Professor Murray Last, have conclusively demonstrated that Queen Amina of Zaria never existed.
