Anti-Corruption Group Demands EFCC Reopen Senator Yari Probe

The Lagos-based Nigerian Advocates for Anti-Corruption Forum has urged the EFCC to resume investigations into Senator Abdul’aziz Yari’s unresolved corruption cases. The group points out that court orders in 2022 and 2023 stalled probes into an alleged N22 billion fraud linked to the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme and payments from the former Accountant-General. They also highlight a 2021 inquiry into a suspected N300 billion fund transfer and recent reports of Yari’s $750 million stake in a power firm. The forum warns that the delay undermines public trust and calls on the EFCC to pursue the cases impartially, regardless of influence.

It seems odd that multiple court orders stalled investigations into N22 billion fraud allegations against Senator Yari.

I no see why EFCC go just dey wait for court orders before acting on such serious fraud claims.

Civil society should pressure the EFCC to publish a clear timeline for reopening the probe, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
