Alonso Backs Palmer After Fresh England Snub, Urges Chelsea Focus

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has backed Cole Palmer after England left the forward out of its squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. Alonso said Palmer should focus on playing well and enjoying his football at Chelsea. Palmer has made five appearances for England since scoring in the Euro 2024 final. He has contributed five goals and three assists in 11 matches for Chelsea this season, but was sent off in the club’s 2–0 defeat to Tottenham and has not scored from open play in the Premier League since August. Alonso praised Palmer’s quality, attitude and influence on the team. He said the pair had discussed the red card, but that their focus was on football and what Chelsea could improve.
