Father of Seven Drowns as Floodwaters Collapse Community Bridge in Edo
Residents of Uguewebo in Edo State are mourning Augustine Ojo, a 50-year-old father of seven, after floodwaters swept away a makeshift wooden bridge on Monday night. The structure gave way when soil erosion linked to nearby road works collapsed into a deep gully, throwing Ojo from his motorcycle. Villagers searched through the night but recovered his body only at about 2 a.m. Locals blame CBC Global’s drainage channels along the Benin-Auchi Road for diverting stormwater and worsening the erosion that has split the community in two. Community leaders have appealed to the Edo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Works to intervene. They demand urgent rehabilitation of the gully and a lasting solution to prevent further loss of life.
