Terrorist Ambush in Kaduna Kills One Army Officer, Six Soldiers
A Nigerian Army officer and six soldiers were killed when troops were ambushed by suspected terrorists in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on the evening of Monday, June 8, 2026. The patrol team was returning from a routine clearance operation along the Kaduna-Zaria corridor when heavily armed assailants opened fire. Soldiers fought back and reportedly inflicted casualties on the attackers, but the ambush claimed seven service members. This setback follows weeks of intensified operations by the 1 Division Nigerian Army, which have included aggressive patrols, intelligence-led raids, anti-kidnapping missions, and the destruction of criminal hideouts across surrounding forests and highways. Military authorities have not yet issued an official statement. Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, and efforts are under way to track down the attackers and prevent further security breaches.
