WEP: Youth Ministry Pays 2,682 Interns, Explain Reasons For Delay In Further Payments To commence further payments in January The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) has opened up on the Work Experience Programme (WEP) Initiative, stating that 2682 participants have been paid a total of Eighty Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N80,460,000), so far. The payments which covers the months of August and September 2021, for participants in the North and South, has some outstanding because of the need for tracking and reconciliation by the Consultant and the Ministry due to different WEP start times by beneficiaries. For instance, a breakdown of the payments shows that the number of beneficiaries in both zones also witnessed increases. In the North, the number of participants increased from Six Hundred and Twenty(620) in August to Eight Hundred and Forty Seven(847) in September, while in the South, the number increased from Four Hundred and Forty Nine(449) in August to Seven Hundred and Sixty Six(766) in September. However, the Ministry has given assurance that issues that caused delay in payments will be resolved this January, and further payments will commence. Beneficiaries are urged to exercise patience and bear with government as processes are on-going to pay the outstanding allowances. The Work Experience Programme (WEP) Initiative is a three-month internship programme that provides participants with the opportunity to gain relevant first hand knowledge, develop skills and workplace competencies that will enhance their employability.
