Nigeria Begins Local Production of Dual-Insecticide Mosquito Nets to Fight Malaria

Nigeria has begun producing PermaNet Dual mosquito nets locally at a facility in the Lagos Free Zone. The nets are designed to help fight malaria by targeting mosquitoes that have developed resistance to commonly used insecticides. Unlike standard treated nets, PermaNet Dual combines two insecticides: deltamethrin and chlorfenapyr. This gives the nets a second method of killing mosquitoes that can survive pyrethroid-based insecticides. The World Health Organisation prequalified the nets in 2023 for areas with pyrethroid-resistant mosquitoes. The Lagos facility is expected to produce up to 10 million nets annually and create more than 600 jobs, reducing Nigeria's reliance on imports while supporting malaria prevention efforts.
