No Freedom Yet: Oyo Denies Reports of Released Kidnapped Teachers and Pupils
Abayomi Fagbenro, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, has rejected social media claims that victims kidnapped during last Friday’s attacks in Oriire LGA were freed. He confirmed as of Thursday morning that no teachers or students have been released. The Oyo State Police PRO also said he had no information on any release. Gunmen struck three schools in the Ahoro-Esinle/Yawota area of Ogbomoso, abducting pupils, students and teachers. Seven students were taken from Community Grammar School while First Baptist Primary and Nursery School lost 18 children and seven teachers. At least one person was killed during the attack. Security forces are intensifying rescue efforts. The Inspector-General of Police has deployed additional detectives from Abuja. Defence Headquarters says troops are in contact with the abductors. The Speaker of the House of Representatives has also urged a careful and timely operation to secure the victims’ release.
