Gunfire Near Old Oyo Forest Reserve Sparks Mass Exodus in Alaguntan Village

Residents of Alaguntan Village in Igbope Local Government Area of Oyo State fled their homes after hearing sporadic gunshots near the Old Oyo National Park. Panic gripped the border community as families grabbed belongings and moved to neighbouring towns for safety. Authorities have yet to confirm any casualties or kidnappings. The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer said he could not immediately verify the incident. Meanwhile, the area has seen a surge in violent attacks and kidnappings linked to armed groups operating in the forest reserve. In recent months, security forces intensified patrols and joint operations around the park. These measures aim to dismantle criminal networks using the dense forest for cover.
