How Lust for Money and Comfort Can Weaken the Church
Lust is not limited to sexual desire. It can also mean an unhealthy pursuit of money, comfort and material success. In many African churches, hardship and poor public services can make personal wealth seem like proof of God’s approval. I believe this mindset can weaken faith and make people vulnerable to false promises. Some pastors may be tempted to pursue wealth and comfort above their calling. I have had dreams in which a seemingly angelic figure offered riches in exchange for worship, but I rejected this because Christ does not demand worship as payment for material gain. Second Peter 1:4 teaches that believers can escape the corruption caused by lust. Christians should pursue virtue, self-control, perseverance and godliness, keeping their hearts focused on Christ rather than material desires. I pray that God gives us freedom from destructive thoughts and the strength to remain firm in faith.
