Is Mamelodi Sundowns’ Dominance Making the PSL Too Predictable?
Mamelodi Sundowns have set an extraordinary standard in South African football, winning eight league titles in a row and claiming 24 victories in 28 matches last season. They now have 18 PSL titles since 1996. Kaizer Chiefs remain their closest historical challengers with 13 titles, but their last league triumph came in 2015. Orlando Pirates ended Sundowns’ recent run in the 2025/26 season, yet one title in nine years does not necessarily signal a sustained title race. Sundowns deserve credit for stronger investment, planning and a winning culture. But has their dominance made the PSL less exciting for neutral supporters, or is it pushing other clubs to improve?
