Nigerian Stock Market Loses ₦5.45tn After Eight Straight Bearish Sessions

Investors in the Nigerian stock market have lost a cumulative ₦5.45 trillion after the Nigerian Exchange Limited recorded eight consecutive bearish trading sessions. The decline began on August 11, 2026, with ₦3.8 trillion wiped off market value during four sessions last week. From Monday to Thursday this week, the market lost a further ₦1.65 trillion. On Thursday alone, market capitalisation fell by ₦440 billion, or 0.30%, from ₦155.417 trillion to ₦154.977 trillion. Continued profit-taking in large- and mid-cap stocks drove the latest decline.
