Adamawa Fences Rural Schools, Plans 3,000 Community-Based Teacher Recruitment
The Adamawa State Government has begun fencing government secondary schools, especially in rural communities, to improve safety for pupils and teachers amid kidnapping concerns. ASUBEC chairman Murtala Umar said teachers will receive security training to help them identify threats early and take preventive action. He said fencing work is ongoing and that the measures are intended to strengthen protection across public schools. The state also plans to recruit 3,000 teachers through a community-based process to reduce staffing gaps in rural schools. Umar said teachers recruited from host communities may be more likely to remain in rural postings. He added that education funding has supported the construction of more than 25,000 classrooms in Adamawa.
