Kara Bridge Repairs and Truck Accidents Cause Hours-Long Lagos Gridlock
Yesterday’s traffic from Iyana-Oworo through Ojota and Berger to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was caused largely by the situation around Kara Bridge. Repair work has restricted lanes on the bridge, while accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles reportedly worsened the congestion. The gridlock affected the expressway, the Third Mainland Bridge corridor and alternative routes through 7UP, Secretariat and Alausa. I spent more than four hours trying to get to Ikeja, and several other motorists were reportedly stuck for hours. With repairs expected to continue until September 22, regular users of the Berger-Kara route may need to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes. For those who used the route today, how is the traffic situation now?
