If He Must Provide, What Should She Bring to the Relationship?

Many Nigerian men feel pressured to carry nearly every financial responsibility in a relationship. They are expected to pay for dates, transport, rent, bills, family needs, bride price and wedding expenses, while still being emotionally available. Providing for a partner can be an expression of love, and many men are happy to do it. The concern begins when support is treated as an entitlement and a man’s value is measured only by the size of his wallet. If a man is expected to bring provision, protection and problem-solving, it is fair to ask what both partners contribute beyond money. A healthy relationship should be a partnership built on appreciation, support, effort and mutual respect—not one person funding the other’s lifestyle.
