Why 2027 Opposition Campaigns Must Move Beyond 2023 Tactics
I believe much of the early political activity ahead of 2027 looks too similar to what happened before the 2023 election. Peter Obi’s overseas engagements, online polls and heated exchanges between supporters are all familiar features of the last campaign cycle. In my view, social media support does not automatically translate into votes. Many grassroots voters are not active on major online platforms, and recent local government election results suggest that parties popular online may still lack strong structures at the local level. I expected the opposition to build a broader coalition with support across the North and South. A divided opposition will struggle against an incumbent government. Rather than revisiting old controversies, opposition groups need clearer strategies for mobilisation, party structure and voter outreach ahead of 2027.
