Gambian Man Remanded for Severely Injuring Wife Over Dinner Dispute
A Gambian man, Lamin Badjie, has been remanded to Mile 2 prison after pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. He allegedly injured his wife’s eye during an argument over a meal in Foni Mandina last Tuesday. His wife, Fatou Sanneh, says Lamin became upset when she served him nyankatang mixed with benachin. She offered to serve one dish at a time, but he refused. When she went to fetch water, he spat on her and later threw a bowl at her before attacking her again. Sanneh was first treated at Kanilai Health Centre and then admitted overnight at Bwiam General Hospital. On July 2, 2026, the Brikama Magistrates Court fined Badjie D100,000 and ordered an additional D100,000 in compensation to his wife.
