Nkem Oselloka-Orakwue came into the Nigerian media scene after developing the country's best family programme on TV, titled Tales by Moonlight. Auntie Nkem, as she is affectionately called, is a presenter, producer, director, and consultant for several international agencies. She is widely known for her admirable love for children and has worked with them for about 32 years. 

From 1976 through 1991, Nkem worked with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). Among the programmes she created at NTA Enugu were The Tortoise Club, Women's World, Home Economics, Children's Parliament, and Youth Forum. 16 feared killed by terrorist bomb in Borno

No fewer than 16 persons were feared dead and 20 others injured when a commercial vehicle plying the Baga -Kukawa Road in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State drove over an Improvised Explosive Device suspected to have been planted by ISWAP terrorist group.

Credible military intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, that the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 17. Although Makama reported 10 feared dead, credible sources told The PUNCH they were no fewer than 16. 7Div spokesman, Lt Col Ajemusu Jingina, said, “I will not comment on the incident, as the location falls under the jurisdiction of the Multi-National Joint Task Force, which is headquartered in Ndjamena, Chad Republic.”

However, a resident of Baga, Bukar Wakil, told The PUNCH on the phone, “We heard that the IED was planted with the intent of killing troops, but the unfortunate commercial vehicle drove over it before any military vehicle did, killing about 16 people and injuring about 20, mainly passers-by.”

A Maiduguri-based security expert, Abdullahi Abubakar, raised concern over the resurgence of sporadic attacks by ISWAP across the Lake Chad basin.

“You should look at the current resurgence of attacks from three angles,” he told The PUNCH.

He explained, “One, troops have claimed degrading Boko Haram to virtual non-existence; two, ISWAP, a rival of Boko Haram, have invaded the Chad basin, not only unleashing terror but attempting to crush Boko Haram in incessant battles for supremacy; and three, ISWAP wants to show the Nigerian military that they are very much around and are very much uncrushable.”

He remarked, “Until troops completely crush ISWAP, the terrorist group will never, in my view, allow Chad Basin to rest. “This explains the sporadic attacks, especially in Northern Borno.”

The All Progressives Congress executives in Dawakin Tofa Local Government and the Ganduje Ward Executive Committee members have faulted the purported suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, from the ruling party.

The Chairman of APC Ganduje Ward, Alhaji Ahmed Koko, said the purported suspension of the national chairman was announced by non-APC members in the ward.

“Those who addressed the press conference were sponsored by the NNPP state government, and from the record of the party at the Ward, Local Government and State, are not card-carrying members of the APC,” Koko said while addressing a press conference in Kano late Monday evening on behalf of the Ward and Local Government Executive Committee members.

He, therefore, said the purported suspension was null and void and would have no effect on the national chairman.

“The Ward and Local Government Executives, having identified the persons involved in this unfortunate situation, have already prepared to charge them to court for impersonation and calculated attempts to embarrass and dent the image of the Party and that of the National Chairman,” Koko added.

Recall that Halliru Gwanjo, who claimed to be the party ward legal adviser, announced the suspension while addressing newsmen in Kano on Monday.

Earlier, the Kano APC chapter, State Working Committee suspended ward party leaders who suspended Ganduje from the party.

But the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area APC thwarted the suspension and sacked those behind the suspension of Ganduje.

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), the philanthropic initiative of the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu (CFR, CON), has kicked off the construction of the N250 million Abdul Samad Rabiu College of Health Sciences Office Block for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State. The construction of this office block was kicked off with the groundbreaking ceremony which was held today within the institution’s premises.

The project, which is a one-storey facility, will comprise twenty (20) staff offices, the office of the Departmental Head, a Panel Room, staff convenience as well as storage spaces. This became necessary following the expansion of the College facilities comprising five (5) Faculties and a School of Medical Laboratory Sciences with various Departments spread across the faculties and the school. 

At the groundbreaking event, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor L. S. Bilbis, welcomed the ASR Africa team with profound gratitude and expressed satisfaction with the level of support received so far from the Chairman of ASR Africa, and the BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu. He noted that the project, upon completion, will accommodate its growing academic programs and students and that the choice of the project was in response to this pressing expansion need. 

In his response, Dr. Ubon Udoh, the Managing Director of ASR Africa, appreciated the University's outstanding performance in Health and Medical Sciences. He reiterated the commitment of the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu to supporting quality education within the tertiary education system in Nigeria. Dr. Udoh urged the institution to focus on the sustainability of this noble project and provide the necessary support to the construction team for the speedy completion and delivery of the project. 

ASR Africa is currently undertaking several health and educational interventions in Sokoto State for 2.5 Billion Naira. Family of US-based Nigerian bodybuilder, Michael Chidozie, who was shot dead by wife are set take his remains back home.

Michael, 26 was shot dead by his wife, Keaiirra Shavoiyae Chidozie, 30,  in the middle of an argument in front of their children in their home in Houston on March 21.

She had claimed to have shot Chidozie in self-defense as she feared for her life during the argument when he followed her into their bedroom.

Police later found Keaiirra with the children in a nearby parking lot after witnesses called police to say she was frantically running around asking for help.

While still struggling to cope with their loss, Chidozie's family and friends have shifted their efforts to bringing his body home to Nigeria, which comes with a hefty price tag of $70,000.

One family member said : Though the family is "devastated," bringing his body home will bring some sort of closure as it was his dream to one day return to his homeland.

According to Sport Mediaset, on April 17th, the Arbitration Court ruled that Juventus must now pay the former forward €9.7 million plus interest.

Build a prayer life 

Prayer is simply talking to your father in Heaven. He loves you and saved you and now he is eager to listen to your prayers. Therefore talk to God without hesitation. Philippians 4 vs 6 "Do not be anxious about anything..." gives us a clear understanding why prayer is important. The verse urges us to not fret over uncertain outcomes. To be anxious means to worried, nervous and unease. Through prayer, we embrace daily life of peace, hope, contentment, confidence, nurturing faith and trust in God. Prayer makes us, it's who you are.

Join a believing church 
Vigilance is an evitable value in lookin for a church. selecting a fellowship center can be challenging due to the presence of deceptive ministries disguised as genuine ones. The bible revealed in Matthew 24 vs 24 "for false Messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive..." Be vigilant! Seek and join a Bible-and-Holy-Spirit believing church. Incase you are lost as to which one to choose, pray asking God for help and guidance

Share the Good news...
Share the Good news of Christ to others. Don't be selfish, you can't enjoy this life of peace alone , invite others to come to the light too and enjoy the benefit of his grace.

Finally, the growing never stops, there's no end to knowing God, just as there's no end to acquiring knowledge. A recent report has highlighted the challenges faced by repentant female Boko Haram insurgents who have surrendered their weapons and denounced violence as they struggle to find suitable partners for marriage in the community.

Gabriel Ogbechie, the CEO of Rainoil Limited, says the federal government currently pays about N600bn as subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called fuel.

Recall that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had claimed that the Bola Tinubu administration spent about N8trn on subsidy in the past eight months.

Ogbechie who spoke on Tuesday during the Stanbic IBTC Energy and Infrastructure Breakfast Session held in Lagos, noted that with Nigeria’s daily fuel usage at 40 million liters and the foreign exchange rate at N1,300, the government’s subsidy per liter of fuel falls between N400 and N500, culminating in a monthly total of approximately N600 billion.

“When Mr. President came May last year, one of the things he said is that Subsidy is gone. And truly subsidy was gone because immediately the price of fuel moved from 200 to 500 per liter. At that point truly, subsidy was gone,” he said.

“During that period, Dollar was exchanging for N460, but a few weeks later, the government devalued the exchange rate. And Dollar moved to about N750. At that point, subsidy was beginning to come back.

“The moment the two markets officially closed, officially the market went to about N1,300. At that point, that conversation was out of the window. Subsidy was fully back on petrol. If you want to know where petrol should be, just look at where diesel is. Diesel is about N1,300 and petrol is still selling for N600.

“So I can tell you for free that there there is at least N400 or N500 liters subsidy on petrol today. If you look at our daily consumption, say 40 million liters, and we’re spending N500 per liter, that is about N20 billion every day, N600 billion every month and 7.2 trillion yearly depending on how we look at it. So, subsidy is definitely back on petrol,” he said.

Speaking further, he said that NNPC being the only petrol importer in the country implies that there is an ongoing subsidy, as prices had to be fixed.

“And if you look at it, NNPC remains the sole importer of petrol in this country because there is subsidy on petrol so the price has to be pegged,” he noted.

An online personality expresses shock after the chicken he was eating gets snatched by a passerby while stuck in Lagos traffic.

The social media user identified as kayzywizzzy lamented the Lagos traffic while making a video of the situation from his car.

As he extended his hand to grasp the chicken, a passerby stole the meat from behind him and fled with it just as he was about to bite into it.

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had rounded up the home of former Lead Representative of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, situated at Wuse Zone 4 of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

As indicated by observers, EFCC officials rounded up the ex-governor’s home 9am on Wednesday.

Officials of the EFCC have cordoned off the road and the entrance to the home of the former Lead Representative of Kogi state Yahaya Bello, for unknown reasons.

Bello was the Lead Representative of the North Central state from January 27, 2016 to January 27, 2024 when he passed the baton of administration to his fellow partyman in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Usman Ododo.

The reason of the operation by the anti-graft operatives was obscure as of press time as endeavors to speak with them proved abortive.

A few allies of the former Lead Representatives were seen in front of the house.
