NAFDAC Says Counterfeit Networks Are Now Producing and Distributing Fake Goods in Nigeria
NAFDAC says some counterfeiters previously operating from China have established production facilities and logistics networks in Nigeria, making fake and substandard products easier to circulate locally. The agency said its investigations uncovered alleged counterfeit operations and logistics firms linked to the networks. It said enforcement teams have made arrests and seizures in Kano, Sokoto, Delta and Anambra states, including over suspected fake toothpaste products. NAFDAC said counterfeit goods threaten consumers, legitimate manufacturers and the wider economy. The agency added that it has seized or destroyed more than ₦1.54 trillion worth of counterfeit, substandard and non-compliant products nationwide since 2023, and recorded 64 convictions between June 2025 and June 2026.
