Ladipo Johnson Criticises Tinubu Over Remarks on Hunger and Church Support

Ladipo Johnson, a former NNPP spokesperson and NDC chieftain, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over remarks attributed to him during a meeting with Catholic bishops on food hardship. Johnson said it was unacceptable to suggest that Nigerians facing food insecurity should rely on churches for sustenance. He argued that churches provide charity but do not collect taxes, manage public resources or set economic policy. Citing Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution, Johnson said the welfare and security of citizens are the government’s primary responsibility. He called on the administration to present practical, structural measures to address food inflation and the wider hunger crisis.
