Businessman Stephen Arinze Ibeh, known as Onwa Global, held a large funeral for his father, Chief Stephen Ozuome Ibeh, in Umualaoma, Ideato LGA of Imo State. The late community leader died at age 86. The rites included a vigil Mass on August 19 and a requiem Mass on August 20 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Umualaoma. The event drew business figures, community members and more than 40 social clubs. Online discussions focused on the copper casket used for the burial. Its price was widely estimated at between ₦130 million and ₦200 million, although the funeral company confirmed the family bought a copper casket without disclosing its cost. Attendees also claimed that clubs and guests presented large cash gifts. The ceremony has renewed debate about lavish funerals and displays of wealth in the South-East.
