Did a Great Flood Shape Human History? A Biblical and Geological Debate

I believe flood traditions from the Bible, the Quran, Mesopotamian texts, Aztec accounts and Sanskrit traditions point to a shared memory of an ancient catastrophe. Although the names and details differ, these stories commonly describe a warning, a vessel, survival and the renewal of human life after destructive waters. I also argue that features such as marine fossils on high mountains, tectonic activity and water stored deep within the Earth deserve to be considered in discussions about the Flood. Mainstream geology explains these features through long-term natural processes, but I see them as possible signs of rapid and catastrophic change. In my view, the Flood transformed the Earth, human lifespans, climate and the movement of early peoples. The story of Babel, migration and separated cultures may help explain why flood memories appear across distant societies. Whether people accept this interpretation or not, I believe the Flood account raises serious questions about humanity, faith, the condition of the Earth and what the future may hold.
