Prof Macaulay Urges Churches to Resist Political Influence Ahead of Elections

Professor Kunle Macaulay has urged politicians to stop using churches to seek political favour ahead of elections. He said religious leaders must protect the independence of their institutions and keep worship centres focused on spiritual growth and moral guidance. He warned that financial inducements and political alliances could weaken the church’s moral authority and public trust. He also criticised the growing focus on fashion, entertainment and other distractions in some church settings. Macaulay called on government officials to concentrate on insecurity, electricity, education, healthcare and other daily challenges facing Nigerians. He said leaders should listen to citizens and deliver practical improvements while respecting the independence of religious institutions.
