Burutu Youths Seize Council Chairman’s Boat Over Healthcare and Power Complaints
Youths in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State reportedly seized a boat belonging to council chairman Julius Takeme during a protest over poor healthcare, power shortages and alleged neglect of the community. The protest reportedly followed the death of an expectant mother and her unborn child after she allegedly could not get timely care at the Burutu General Hospital. Residents say the hospital lacks sufficient personnel, drugs, equipment and reliable electricity. Protesters also reportedly switched off a generator at the local government facility, arguing that public officials should not enjoy electricity while residents lack basic services. They carried placards demanding improved healthcare, electricity, roads and better governance.
