Table Tennis Doubles: Order of Play, Serving and Receiving Rules

In table tennis doubles, players must hit the ball alternately. If A and B play against X and Y, and A serves to X, the order of play is A → X → B → Y until a side fails to make a legal return. When service changes, the previous receiver becomes the new server, while the previous server’s partner becomes the receiver. The sequence then changes accordingly. In later games, play starts in the reverse order from the previous game. Each serving pair chooses its first server, while the receiving pair may only choose its first receiver in the opening game. In the deciding game, once either pair reaches five points, both pairs change ends and the receiving order changes.
