Developer Offers to Manage My Flat – Should His Lawyer Draft the Agreement?
My family leased our land to a developer who has now completed the building and handed us our flat as agreed. He has offered to manage this flat on our behalf. He promises to handle utilities, maintenance, and tenant sourcing. He also says he will pay our rent on the due date, even if he hasn’t received payment from the tenant. His condition is that his own lawyer must draft the management agreement and collect the fees. I’m uneasy because the same lawyer wrote our original lease. I need advice on best practices and whether it’s safe to let his lawyer handle this new agreement.
