Beware of Fake QR Codes on POS Signs and Donation Boxes

Fake QR codes are becoming a serious scam risk. Criminals can print a fraudulent code and paste it over a genuine one on POS payment signs, parking notices, donation boxes, flyers or product labels. When scanned, the code may open a fake payment or login page designed to steal card details, bank credentials or personal information. This tactic is known as “quishing” — QR-code phishing. Before scanning, check whether the code looks pasted over another sticker or has raised edges. Avoid QR codes asking you to confirm an account or claim a prize. If a page opens after scanning, inspect its address carefully before entering any payment or login details. Have you seen a QR code that looked tampered with, or encountered this type of scam?
