Scottish oil billionaire and Wood Group founder Sir Ian Wood has died peacefully at his home aged 84. Sir Ian built the family business from a fishing operation into a major engineering and consultancy company serving the North Sea oil and gas industry. At its peak, Wood Group was valued at more than £5 billion and delivered energy projects around the world. He stepped down as chairman in 2012 after decades of leadership. He was knighted in 1994 for his contributions to the oil and gas sector and later received the Order of the Thistle. His family remembered him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose foundation supported education, enterprise and communities.
