Frustrated Brother Exhumes Sister’s Skeleton to Access Bank Funds
An elderly man in Odisha dug up his sister’s skeleton to prove her death and withdraw her savings. Jitu Munda had gone to the Grameen Bank branch seeking about Rs 20,000 from his sister Kalara’s account but was asked to provide legal documents. Lacking formal education and frustrated by repeated rejections, Munda exhumed his sister’s remains and brought the skeleton to the bank. His dramatic act alarmed customers, bank officials, and prompted a police response to the scene. Authorities later explained the nominee on the account had also died, making Munda the sole claimant. Police intervened, guided the bank on proper procedures, and oversaw the reburial of the remains.
