Kenyan Ex-Governor Okoth Obado and Two Aides Convicted for Murdering His Pregnant Girlfriend
Kenya’s former Migori governor, Zacharia Okoth Obado, has been found guilty of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, Sharon Otieno. He and two co-accused were convicted by the High Court at Milimani on July 23, 2026. Sharon, 26, was abducted, raped and killed while 28 weeks pregnant in September 2018. The court ruled that Obado financed and instigated the killing, with one aide arranging logistics and another providing concealment. Justice Cecilia Githua said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. She highlighted evidence of Obado’s efforts to silence Sharon, including funding an abortion and promising to buy her a house to prevent her from exposing their affair. Sentencing is set for August 18, 2026. The court ordered Obado, Michael Juma Oyamo and Casper Ojwang Obiero to remain in custody pending that hearing due to flight risk.
