I Won’t Be Silenced: US Lawmaker Accuses Defence Minister Matawalle Over Nigeria Killings
US lawmaker Kimberly Daniels has accused Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, of trying to silence her after she spoke out on targeted killings in the country. Daniels, a member of the Florida House of Representatives and Chair of the United World Congress of Diplomats, made the allegation during a live social media broadcast. She says associates of the minister pressured her, attempted to discredit her findings and even sought to “buy support” from US lawmakers. Her claims follow an April report that highlighted violence against Christians in North Central and North West Nigeria during the Easter period. Daniels is calling on President Bola Tinubu to review Matawalle’s position and order a transparent investigation. The controversy has intensified debate over Nigeria’s security situation. There is no official response from the defence ministry as yet.
