Gen. Musa Convenes Service Chiefs to Tackle Surge in North-East Attacks
Retired Gen. Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, has summoned all Service Chiefs to his Abuja office. The meeting follows a string of recent attacks on military bases in the North-East. Attendees include the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass. Representatives of the National Intelligence Agency are also present. Daily Trust reports that terrorists recently killed at least three lieutenant-colonels and scores of soldiers in Borno. Hundreds of civilians remain in captivity after mass abductions. Before moving behind closed doors, Gen. Musa said the meeting would review and strengthen military strategies. “We have recorded casualties, but terrorists have suffered more losses,” he noted, pledging a harder push against the insurgents.
