1 / 4

Youth cooperatives are powerful engines for entrepreneurship, leadership and community growth. In a historic first, the Ogun State Youth Cooperative Ado-Odo/Ota/Ifo/Ewekoro Branch held a one-day seminar themed “Future Proof: Creating Value and Sustaining Well-Being in a Changing World” at Sango-Ota. The event drew 47 participants from various cooperative societies across Ogun State. Sessions covered entrepreneurship and innovation, digitalizing cooperative operations and mental health awareness. Speakers shared practical steps for launching and managing cooperatives, showcased tech tools for member services, and highlighted strategies for emotional well-being. Activities included a knowledge quiz with cash prizes, a free medical outreach featuring blood pressure and sugar screenings, and networking opportunities. Organizers also awarded educational support funds to encourage active learning and participation. Interested young people are invited to join the youth cooperative to access mentorship, funding opportunities and a growing community of innovators. Membership registration remains affordable and open to all emerging entrepreneurs.

The seminar theme sounds promising, but I wonder if a one-day event provides enough depth for lasting community growth.

While digital skills are vital, shouldn't the cooperative also focus on traditional industries that still employ many young people here?

It might help if the cooperative offers follow-up workshops or peer mentoring groups to ensure participants apply those new innovation skills.
