European Leagues President Calls for Gianni Infantino to Leave FIFA
European Leagues president Claudius Schafer has called for Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA president, arguing that meaningful reform is impossible under the current leadership. Schafer said FIFA has become too centralised, with major decisions made without meaningful consultation with leagues and other stakeholders. European Leagues represents 53 professional men’s and women’s competitions across the continent. He also criticised FIFA’s decision to award its inaugural peace prize to former US President Donald Trump, claiming the move was made without informing the FIFA Council. Schafer said the process could amount to a breach of the organisation’s rules under Swiss law.
